Letting Go & Moving Forward

I will be updating my website this year, which includes archiving many images and moving them into an online portfolio where they can still be viewed but will no longer be for sale. Photographers sometimes call this “retiring” images. I am retiring a look I’ve relied on for years—one that emphasized color. Going forward, most new work will be Black and White or duotone, likely sepia.

The image above is one of the new duotones (Yellow + Black). It began in my Wild and Free series, where it was titled “Onward.” I’ve retitled it “Moving Forward” to reflect both the website changes and a personal shift in my life.

Each new year I make resolutions about what I want to accomplish. This year feels different. To truly move forward I need to let go of some of the ways I’ve tried to progress in the past. That means doing things differently. Letting go is hard—changing my habitual color post-processing feels strange and uncomfortable. It would be easier to keep working the way I always have, but staying the same no longer feels creative or satisfying.

In 2026 I’ll be entering my eighth decade, and I want to move forward with more conscious intention—rather than on autopilot. I want to be surprised by what opens up. I want my life to feel more like being on safari: each morning I climb into the Land Cruiser with no expectations, only curiosity and excited anticipation for what will appear along the way
